Attorney John Gerard Donhoff Jr. 57, of Millbrae, CA, passed away in San Francisco, Saturday, June 28, 2008 after battling lung cancer. Mr. Donhoff was born on February 3, 1951 in Torrance, CA, and spent his formative years in Mill Valley and Southern California. He received his bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University and his law degree from Hastings School of Law, University of California. Mr. Donhoff served as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of California for the past 23 years.
An early highlight of Mr. Donhoff’s legal career, prior to joining the Attorney General’s Office, was to argue a case before the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Donhoff was a member of the Sacramento Seminar, a group dedicated to political discourse, and was active in city politics, serving on the Sister City Committee in Millbrae and the Planning Commission in Pacifica. A sailing enthusiast, he was a member of the Coyote Point Yacht Club. He is survived by his son Nicholas, 15; his daughter Angelina, 12; his mother Jill Pappas Donhoff, and his former wife Karyn Ferrera Donhoff.
His brother, Garry, and father, John G. Donhoff Sr., predeceased him.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, July 12, 2pm at the Coyote Point Yacht Club, 1820 Coyote Point Drive, San Mateo. In lieu of flowers, donations in John Donhoff’s memory can be made to a charity of your choice, or to the college fund that has been established for the Donhoff children. Donations to the college fund can be made out to “John Gerard Donhoff Jr. Trust” and sent c/o Trustee Chris Ames, 525 Hill St., SF, CA 94114.
